In an extraordinary session of the National Assembly to debate a draft law approving the Amiri grant.
  31 July 2006

Acting speaker of the National Assembly,
Esteemed members of the National Assembly,

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

As we anticipate a bright future for our people, we agonize over the events unfolding in Lebanon, where innocent women, children and the elderly are victims of brutal crimes and deliberate destruction of the infrastructure. Israel continues to exercise organized terrorism, disregarding international charters, conventions, human compassion and global appeals for an end to this barbaric aggression. The latest attack was on the village of Gana where most of the victims were children, amongst them an infant no older than a day.

Kuwait confirms its complete solidarity with the Lebanese people and will spare no effort to stop this humanitarian tragedy, providing all available means of alleviating the suffering of the Lebanese people and assisting them to overcome their painful ordeal.

Efforts continue to assist the Palestinian people through their daily ordeal of violence, torture and displacement at the hands of Israeli forces. We pray to Allah to eliminate the anguish of both the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, and that just and comprehensive peace in the region may prevail, so its peoples can enjoy security and stability.

Wassalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
